Tues. 12/1: Review parts of a newspaper for the quiz; Newspaper writing activity continued. See me if you are absent after you pick up the hand-out.
Wed. 12/2: Quiz on Newspapers (Text Types and parts) Follow up discussion. Set up a time to retake the quiz if you are absent.
Thur. 12/3: Start Non-Fiction Unit: "Roswell Incident"; See me if you are absent after you pick up the hand-out
Fri. 12/4; Continue Non-Fiction Unit: "Roswell Incident"

Week 11/23-11/25
Hello! This is a short week...Yeah!! Happy Thanksgiving!! This week we will be reading informational articles/essays from our class text book. We will be using the Reading Strategies to work on information retention. We will also be reviewing the informational and functional parts of paper and on-line news sources. This will help students gain skills in using and understanding informational and functional texts. All assignments will be done in class. Please come see me if you are going to miss school this week.

Week 11/16-11/20
Hello!!
This week we will be moving from our class novel (Literary Text) to reviewing and working with Newspapers (Functional Text). Here is the schedule:
Mon. 11/16: The Dark Side of Nowhere final test. (Open Book, Use of Strategies when reading Literary Text): Newspaper Pretest (this is to assess how much students already know about using newspapers); No homework
Tues. 11/17: Newspaper notes and worksheet; No Homework
Wed. 11/18: Library Visit for a lesson on how to use the newspaper on-line; No Homework
Thurs. 11/19: Library Visit for an on-line newspaper activity/worksheet; No Homework
Fri. 11/20: Newspaper Partner Activity; Review for Newspaper Quiz (Quiz will be on Mon. 11/23); No Homework.
Have a great week, and don't forget to bring an outside-reading book everyday for participation points.

Hello All! We are still continuing to read our class novel, The Dark Side of Nowhere, this week. We will be reviewing the Six Strategies of Reading as we read the novel. We will reviewing the concepts of informational and functional texts. Here is the run-down for the week:
