Hello All, We are now up and running with a place for you to check what is going on in reading class. Remember to check the "What did I miss?" board and the "Missing Hand-Outs" file basket if you are absent. Students need to have a novel to read each day in class. The library is open at 7:00am Mon-Thur. Students get participation points for having a novel everyday in class.
The following is a list of what we will be doing in class this week:
Mon. 8/31: Book Fair short film to introduce some of the new books that will be available at the book fair; Creation of Reading Folders. No homework.
Tues. 9/1: Introduction to year-long, in-class project, "Memory Strings." Students will be learning different strategies and read from several difference texts. Each student will keep track of what they have learned by creating a "symbol" of what they learned and keeping it on a string. They will at to this string with each new thing we learn or read. The purpose of this is to give the students concrete evidence of their learning and to use the string as a resource for future reading. Their memory strings will be created and kept in class. No homework.
Wed. 9/2: Lesson on the six main strategies we will be learning and using as we read in class. Also, an introduction to the different types of texts we will be reading and learning from. No homework.
Thurs. 9/3: Lesson on why we read with a tie into the the strategies discussed on 9/2. Students will discuss and share favorite reading experiences. No homework.
Fri. 9/4: Creation of first memory string item about what we learned this week. No homework.
